-Assistant Minister Mike Javareh threatens Rep. Yekeh Kolubah

Assistant Minister Mike Jabateh has threatened to kill Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah, stating that he would kill him within three weeks if Rep. Kolubah did not cease what Jabetah referred to as persistent insults directed at the President of Liberia.

Recently, Representative Kolubah made headlines when he revealed that his home was subjected to a police raid shortly after delivering a scathing press conference in which he openly criticized and insulted the President. The incident has raised concerns about potential political intimidation and abuse of power.

Political pundits have described the situation involving a threat made by Assistant Minister Mike Jabateh towards Representative Yekeh Kollubah as deeply troubling and raises significant legal, ethical, and political implications.

According to them threatening violence, particularly against a public official, is a serious criminal offense that undermines the foundations of democracy and the rule of law. It is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a government official, to use threats or intimidation to silence political critics or opponents. Such behavior not only violates the rights and safety of the individual targeted but also erodes trust in the institutions of governance and sets a dangerous precedent for the handling of political dissent.

The reported threat made by Assistant Minister Jabateh, coupled with his claims of mercenary training in Russia, raises grave concerns about the potential for violence and instability in Liberia. The authorities must take swift and decisive action to investigate these claims, ensure the safety of Representative Kollubah, and uphold the principles of justice and accountability.

Representative Yekeh Kollubah, as a public figure and elected official, has the right to express his opinions and criticisms of the government without fear of reprisal or harm. He must report the threat to the appropriate authorities so that they can take immediate steps to protect his safety and investigate the matter thoroughly.

Observers believe that while it is commendable that Assistant Minister Jabateh publicly apologized for his outburst and acknowledged the inappropriateness of his actions, an apology alone does not absolve him of the gravity of his threatening remarks. They called on authorities toconduct a thorough investigation into the incident, hold those responsible accountable, and send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in a democratic society.

In a healthy democracy, political disagreements should be resolved through peaceful dialogue, respect for the rule of law, and adherence to ethical standards. Threats of violence have no place in public discourse and must be unequivocally condemned by all members of society, particularly those in positions of authority and influence. It is essential that all individuals, regardless of their political beliefs, uphold the principles of civility, tolerance, and respect for the rights and dignity of others.

It should be noted that Assistant Minister Jabateh recently visited Rep. Kolubah at his Capitol Hill office to urge him to lay down his arms and rally behind the President, a plea that appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
