– warns political parties against interference & provocation

Liberia’s Joint Security has threatened to arrest, charge and forward to court any political party or individual that will engage into campaign interference, and unnecessary provocation beginning Saturday, October 7, 2023.

The Join Security warned that any political party that will engage into provocation and interference will be met with the full weight of the Joint Security in line with the rule of law. 

The Joint Security caveat comes at the time when political parties have climaxed their campaign activities, whiles electorates are expected to go to the pools Tuesday, October 10, 2023, to elect new leaders. 

Liberia’s main opposition Unity Party climaxed its campaign activities Saturday, October 7, 2023, with a grand parade in Montserrado and other parts of Liberia.

On the other hand, the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change(CDC) climaxed its activities on Sunday, October 8, 2023, also with a grand parade. 

At a major press conference late Friday, September 6, 2023, at the Ministry of Justice, Police Spokesperson Mr. Moses Carter said following the closure of campaign activities- it’s prudent that supporters and Political leaders desist from Political campaign, interference and unnecessary provocation. 

According to him, the Joint Security will not hesitate to arrest, investigate, charge and forward to court anybody or party that will engage into Political violence or provocation. 

“Let me make this clear, the Joint Security will not hesitate to arrest, investigate charge and forward to court anybody or Institutions that will engage into interference, political violence and unnecessary provocation against other political parties on Saturday and Sunday. Unnecessary provocation must stop, elections are about communication of ideas and not physical combat,” he noted. 

Mr. Carter also assured Liberians that the Joint Security is fully prepared and ready to provide security and protection for Liberian during and after these elections.

Accordingly, he added that they have deployed securities in all fifteen Counties, and they are willing to ensure that the elections remain peaceful as must as possible.
