Monrovia, Liberia – Whispers of impending conflict along the Liberian-Guinean border, fueled by unfounded rumors, have recently sparked anxiety amongst residents. Taking swift action to address these concerns and assure the nation, the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), in a show of strength and cooperation, joined forces with the United States to conduct a comprehensive three-day aerial patrol across several key counties. This decisive operation, spearheaded by Brigadier General Davidson F Forleh, Chief of Staff of the AFL, and US Ambassador Mark Toner, aimed to not only demonstrate a commitment to national security but also to personally engage with local communities and address their concerns.
Brigadier General Forleh, speaking directly to the public, unequivocally stated, “There is no war coming to Liberia.” He emphasized that the visible increase in military personnel in Lofa County, strategically situated along the Guinean border, is solely for conducting routine patrols and enhancing security measures. The joint aerial patrol, a powerful symbol of the enduring partnership between Liberia and the United States, took place between November 20th and 22nd, 2024. Utilizing US military aircraft provided at the request of the AFL, the delegation, which included high-ranking officials from both nations, conducted a thorough assessment of key areas within Maryland, Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, and Lofa Counties. This strategic initiative had multiple objectives:
