Liberia stands at the threshold of a significant improvement in electricity distribution, with the potential for a stable power supply from TRANSCO CLSG, pending the settlement of debts. During a recent visit by President Boakai to the Ivory Coast, discussions revealed that TRANSCO CLSG is prepared to boost Liberia’s allocation on the transmission line.
This adjustment would empower the Liberia Electricity Corporation to cater to the public’s electricity needs effectively, contingent upon Liberia clearing its outstanding debts totaling $16 million owed to CLSG.
The possible advancement in electricity infrastructure comes as TRANSCO CLSG, headquartered in neighboring Côte d’Ivoire, demonstrates its commitment to supporting Liberia’s energy sector.
Following President Boakai’s tour of TRANSCO CLSG facilities and interactions with key figures like Mohammed M. Sherif, the first Director General of TRANSCO CLSG, optimism surrounds the prospect of enhanced power distribution in Liberia.
Sherif, an Economist who previously held prominent positions in Liberia’s Ministry of Finance, emphasized the transformative impact of the completed project, describing it as a realization of a shared vision towards sustainable development and prosperity.
President Boakai expressed satisfaction with the progress of the CLSG project implementation and affirmed his unwavering backing to ensure the viability of TRANSCO CLSG.
In alignment with his commitment to enhancing accessibility to reliable and affordable electricity nationwide, President Boakai reiterated his dedication to advancing the electrification agenda for the benefit of all Liberians.
As Liberia navigates the path toward resolving its financial obligations to CLSG, the potential for a stable and improved electricity supply looms on the horizon, promising brighter prospects for the nation’s energy sector.
President Boakai during the tour of the TRANSCO CLSG headquarters, met with the General Manager, Mohammed M. Sherif, and the senior management team of the multi-donor-funded company in Cocody, Abidjan on Friday, March 8, 2024.
The President elucidated the importance of unimpeded electricity to Liberia’s growth.
CLSG remains key in easing the energy demand in Liberia, once the Liberian government settles arrears owed Cote d’Ivoire, which was incurred by the former CDC led regime.
