The Committee on Post and Telecommunications of the Honorable House of Representatives has requested the Management of DSTV Liberia to uphold the promotion of Liberian Cultural Heritage as enshrined in Article 5b of 1986, the Liberian Constitution. The decision was reached following the appearance of DStv before the committee.

DStv Liberia was recently cited for providing caused why it should not be held in contempt for not honoring previous citations to address other information surrounding its operations in Liberia.

Responding to the citation, DStv Liberia CEO, Mr. Simeon Freeman, apologized to the committee for such action.

Mr. Freeman also wants the Country to explore other avenues that will lead to the promotion of Liberian Cultural Heritage on the DStv platform.

According to him, the previous Liberia Broadcasting System Management, headed by Mrs. Estelle Liberty-Kermoh, initiated the inclusion of LNTV on the platform but to no avail due to its non-digitalization.

The DStv CEO added that it is also cost-intensive, and if such is addressed, LNTV can be streamed by DStv. He then highlighted the low quality of Liberian movies to meet the standards. However, the HOR Post and Telecommunication Chair, Representative Ivar Jones, quotes LBS’s current Management, headed by Eugene Fahngon, as saying LNTV has gone digital.

Representative Jones said the LBS Management confirmed the airing of LNTV programs on SATCOM due to its digitalization. The Committee Chair stated that the airing of LNTV programs on DStv will allow diaspora Liberians, among others, to know and understand the Liberian Cultural heritage.

The Chair spoke about revenue leakages, adding that some customers in Liberia are subscribing to DStv but recharging from Nigeria because of the charges. The committee has since requested the management of DStv Liberia to provide it with the list of its Social corporate responsibilities beneficiaries.

Additionally, the Committee is expected to pay DStv Liberiaโ€™s Office a working visit on Friday, September 27, 2024, at its premises in order to have a fair appreciation of its infrastructure.
