Monrovia – The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has intensified its fire prevention efforts with a safety awareness campaign in West Point, one of Monrovia’s most fire-prone communities. The initiative, held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, aimed to educate residents on hazard prevention and emergency response.

Led by LNFS Director G. Wasuwah Barvoul Sr. and supported by Col. Emmanuel K.W. Farr and other officials, the team demonstrated fire extinguisher use, identified common hazards, and warned against storing gasoline in homes. Director Barvoul specifically cautioned against substandard electrical wiring, a leading cause of fires, urging residents to invest in certified materials.

Aid for Fire Victims

The LNFS team also visited families affected by recent fires that destroyed two large residences (a 10- and 16-bedroom home). Twelve 25kg bags of rice and L$10,000 were distributed to victims, who praised the agency’s rapid response during the incidents. “The Fire Service’s awareness efforts have saved many homes,” one beneficiary noted, adding that medical aid was provided to the injured.

West Point Commissioner McPherson Dagbeh welcomed the initiative, citing the township’s vulnerability as a fishing hub where gasoline storage is common. He urged the LNFS to expand its gasoline safety campaigns across Montserrado County.
