Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting incident involving Officer Boimah Massallay of the Police Support Unit (PSU) in the Bokon Community, Lower Virginia. The incident occurred on February 12, 2025.
According to preliminary reports, Officer Massallay discharged his service weapon during an encounter, resulting in the death of an individual identified as Talking Tom. The exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear and are currently under investigation.
The LNP has assured the public that the probe will be thorough, transparent, and impartial.
Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the LNP’s commitment to accountability and justice.
His words: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. The Liberia National Police remains steadfast in its dedication to professionalism, accountability, and justice. We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness and have initiated a prompt investigation to establish the facts. Our primary focus remains the safety and protection of all Liberians, and we are committed to maintaining transparency and responsibility in law enforcement.”
In line with standard protocol, Officer Massallay has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The LNP has also begun engaging with community leaders and witnesses to gather additional information and ensure a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired.
The LNP is urging anyone with relevant information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. “We encourage members of the community to share any details that may aid in uncovering the truth. Your cooperation is vital to ensuring a fair and just resolution,” the LNP stated in a press release.
