The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested 23-year-old Malison Garpeh, a resident of Robertsville, White Plains, Montserrado County, in connection with the alleged murder of his six-month pregnant girlfriend, Promise Bowah, 21, and her six-year-old daughter, Faith Davies. The incident occurred on September 27, 2024, after which Garpeh fled the scene and has since been in police custody undergoing investigation.

This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the Upper Caldwell community, where residents are grappling with the brutal loss of two innocent lives. Promise Bowah was four months pregnant at the time of her death, eagerly anticipating the arrival of her new child.

Details surrounding the incident reveal that the situation escalated dramatically when Promise discovered what appeared to be a traditional West African amulet, known as juju, in Garpeh’s pocket. Her confrontation about the item reportedly triggered a violent outburst from him, resulting in the brutal attack that claimed the lives of both Promise and her young daughter.

A close family member disclosed that Garpeh and Promise had been in a relationship for several years, and she was excited about their future together. Promise was also a devoted mother to Faith, her daughter from a previous relationship. Friends and neighbors describe her as a kind-hearted and nurturing individual who devoted her life to her children.

Since the incident, Garpeh has managed to evade law enforcement, prompting the police to initiate an extensive manhunt. Authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward and report to the nearest police station. “We are utilizing all available resources to locate and apprehend the suspect,” stated a police spokesperson. “Public cooperation is crucial in ensuring that justice is served.”

The families of the victims are calling for swift justice, emphasizing the need for immediate action to apprehend Garpeh and to ensure that such heinous acts do not go unpunished. “We are devastated by this unimaginable loss,” a family spokesperson lamented. “Promise and Faith deserved to live their lives free from fear and violence. We urge the community to assist us in any way possible to bring Garpeh to justice.”

Community leaders and local officials have condemned the violence, calling for stronger measures to protect women and children from domestic abuse. “This tragedy underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and prevention of domestic violence,” one leader remarked. “We must unite to create a safer environment for all members of our community.”

In the aftermath of this horrific event, local advocacy groups are advocating for enhanced support services for domestic violence victims and improved education on recognizing early warning signs. They stress the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding the reporting of domestic violence and ensuring that victims have access to the necessary resources.

Vigils and memorial services are being organized to honor Promise and Faith, with community members coming together to support the grieving family. The sense of loss is profound, but so is the community’s determination to see justice served and to prevent future tragedies.
