…. As it threatens legal action if she refuses to appear
The Liberia National Police has threatened what it terms “appropriate legal actions” through the court of law against former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott and her family upon their failure to honor an invitation extended to them for questioning.
As disclosed by a Liberia National Police release dated Thursday, March 2, 2023, the LNP invited former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, Gertrude Newton, Rebecca Youdeh Wisner, and Alice Johnson for further questioning at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police.
The questioning, as mentioned by the LNP, is in connection to the alleged armed robbery incident at the home of the former Chief Justice, which resulted in the untimely death of Miss Charloe Musu on February 22, 2023.
Howbeit, Cllr. Scott and a few of her relatives were warned to avail themselves at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police no later than 10:00 AM tomorrow, Friday, March 3, 2023.
“The LNP urges the former Chief Justice and all occupants of her home, as named above, to avail themselves at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police not later than 10:00 AM tomorrow, Friday, March 3, 2023”, the release noted.
It continued, “Failure on their part to honor this invitation, the LNP will be left with no option but to take appropriate legal actions through the court of law.”
Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott and her family were attacked at about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at her home at Sheriff Gas Station, in Brewerville city, where her niece Charloe Musu was stabbed multiple times and later pronounced dead, and her granddaughter was badly injured.
Following the disclosure of the recent attack, many have professed that the action of the alleged robbers signifies an assassination attempt.
Howbeit, Pastor Alvin Gezzie, the closest neighbor to former Chief Justice Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, while narrating in bits and pieces, told reporters that though the incident poses a serious threat to residents of the community, he believes that it must have been masterminded specifically for her, especially referencing how she was attacked simultaneously.
As also narrated by several eyewitnesses, Pastor Gezzie confirmed that the former Chief Justice told him that she was physically confronted by one of the robbers, but she reportedly used pepper spray on him, something that made him escape the scene.
Narrating from further interaction he had with the former Chief Justice after the incident, the man of God said Charloe Musu was stabbed multiple times by the robber after she interrupted his attack on Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott.
“The Chief Justice said that the guy came face to face with her and then she used the pepper spray, and even residents who were in the house got affected by the spray,”, he said.
Charloe Musu, the niece of the former Chief Justice, was a senior student at Starz College University.
She would have been a part of Starz College University’s November 24, 2023, graduating class.
Commenting on the counselors’ role in the incident, Pastor Gezzie said they only alerted the neighbors about the incident.
However, he believes that the former Chief Justice deserves state security instead of private security, as Wednesday’s incident was the third of its kind at the compound.
“There were two attempts that were made here, around the Armed Forces Day celebration, on a Wednesday and on a Saturday. It happened recently.”
He confirmed that Alice Johnson, the granddaughter of the former Chief Justice who was also badly wounded, is currently at the Redemption hospital, and she’s responding to treatment.
The last incident was the second time armed robbers have visited the counselor’s residence; as it can be recalled, a few weeks ago, armed robbers reportedly burglarized Cllr. Gloria Scott’s home, making off with scores of documents.
In response to the incident mid-Thursday, February 23, 2023. Liberian female politician MacDella Cooper expressed dismay over the incident and extended condolences to the former Chief Justice and her family.
However, she’s insinuating that Liberians must not agree and cannot accept the continued lack of personal security in Liberia.
“The right to personal security is the fundamental right of all residents of the country, women and men, children, adults, and elders.” “It is the government’s responsibility to ensure this fundamental right,” she said.
She continued, “Liberia deserves better. I send my deepest condolences to the former chief justice, Musu Scott, and best wishes to the injured. May God give you all the force and courage you need to recover, and may the soul of your dearest daughter rest in peace.”.
