Liberia National Red Cross Society and Swedish Red Cross have concluded a two-day Anti-Corruption and Humanitarian Diplomacy Workshop in Ganta, Nimba County.

The Anti-Corruption and Humanitarian Diplomacy training workshop which was held October 10 – 11, 2024 in Ganta, Nimba County was held under the Theme: “Strengthening Humanitarian Diplomacy through Integrity and Transparency”, the workshop focuses on combating corruption, fostering trust, and ultimately enhancing life-saving humanitarian services.

The training workshop aims to equip Red Cross staff, volunteers, and board members with the tools and knowledge necessary to promote transparency, accountability, and advocacy in humanitarian work. Participants include Red Cross representatives from all 15 counties, the regional office in Fishtown, and key officials from the LNRCS headquarters in Monrovia.

The workshop is a part of the LNRCS’s ongoing commitment to ensuring integrity in its humanitarian operations, while also building the capacity of its personnel to influence critical decision-making processes at local and national levels through humanitarian diplomacy.  In his opening remarks, Mr. Gregory Blamoh, CEO of the Liberia National Red Cross Society, emphasized the importance of integrity and diplomacy in achieving successful humanitarian outcomes. “We cannot afford to be complacent in our humanitarian mission.

As the challenges grow, so must our commitment to integrity, transparency, and diplomacy,” said Mr. Blamoh. “This workshop is a vital step in ensuring that we remain accountable to the communities we serve and work collaboratively with our partners to build trust, save lives, and improve the quality of our humanitarian assistance across Liberia.”

Mr. Blamoh further underscored the role of partnerships in fulfilling the Red Cross’ objectives, highlighting that integrity and transparency are crucial in securing humanitarian access and influencing policy decisions during crises. “Our ability to influence policy, foster collaboration, and secure humanitarian access during crises is directly linked to the integrity and transparency of our operations. This training provides the foundation for stronger partnerships that will benefit the people of Liberia,” he added.

The workshop not only strengthens the capacity of participants to ensure that the Red Cross continues to deliver impartial and transparent humanitarian services, but it also enhances the Liberian Red Cross’s ability to engage in stronger Humanitarian Diplomacy, advocating for policies and laws that support humanitarian goals, protect affected communities, and build partnerships with governments, the private sector, and other humanitarian organizations.
