On January 1, 2025, residents of New Dolo Town in Lower Margibi County made a grim discovery when they found the body of a 28-year-old man on the banks of the Garbe River. The man, identified as Robert Kpaliah, was located after community members noticed a foul odor permeating the area, raising serious health concerns among local residents.
Witnesses reported to Women Voices that Kpaliah likely drowned in the river. He was known to be a relative of a former notorious figure in the community, identified as Particle J.
Local community leaders promptly contacted the Liberia National Police detachment in Dolo Town to request an investigation and the removal of the body. Residents expressed urgency in addressing the situation, citing the unpleasant smell as a significant environmental hazard that posed health risks to the community.
According to local regulations, the removal of a deceased individual from a public area is typically mandated within four days for those who have died under normal circumstances, and within two days for those whose deaths are deemed suspicious.
The community is now awaiting further action from the authorities to ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding Kpaliah’s death and to restore safety and hygiene to their environment.
