Monrovia, Liberia – Margibi County District #3 Representative Ellen Amarkai Attoh Wreh has accused her husband, Prince Anything Wreh, of bigamy—a criminal offense involving marriage to one person while still legally wed to another. The allegations come at a time when both former and current lawmakers face increasing public pressure over allegations of failing to meet child support obligations.
The couple was scheduled to appear, February 20, 2025, at the Monrovia City Court for a conference aimed at resolving the matter amicably. This marks the second court summons for the pair, as tensions between them continue to escalate.
Representative Wreh’s accusations have thrust the issue of bigamy—often conflated with polygamy, though legally distinct—into the national spotlight. According to sources close to the case, the lawmaker plans to file for divorce following today’s conference, seeking to dissolve her long-standing marriage to Mr. Wreh.
“This is a deeply personal and painful situation,” a source close to Representative Wreh revealed. “She feels betrayed and is determined to move forward with her life.”
The court, however, has emphasized that the conference is intended to foster a peaceful resolution to the dispute. Officials have expressed hope that Mr. Wreh will attend and cooperate fully in the proceedings.
The allegations against Mr. Wreh have sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the legal and social implications of bigamy in Liberia. While polygamy is culturally accepted in some communities, bigamy remains a criminal offense under Liberian law, punishable by fines or imprisonment.
The case also highlights the growing scrutiny faced by public officials, particularly lawmakers, over their personal conduct. Recent allegations of unpaid child support and other familial disputes have placed many politicians under the microscope, prompting calls for greater accountability and transparency.
