-For Compact Preparation
A two-member delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is scheduled to visit Liberia from January 20 to 22, 2025, for a technical working visit focused on preparing Liberia’s Compact program.
The visit will center on key steps including staff recruitment, a diagnostic study on the Compact’s implementation modalities, and the establishment of a Millennium Challenge Corporation office in Liberia.
Heading the delegation will be Jason Small, MCC’s Managing Director for Africa, accompanied by Ilana Shapiro, MCC Program Officer for Africa.
On January 20, the team will pay a courtesy visit to the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, to discuss critical elements of the Compact’s preparation.
These include the recruitment of key personnel, such as the National Coordinator, and finalizing plans for establishing the MCC office in Liberia.
This visit follows the MCC Board of Directors’ decision on December 18, 2024, to select Liberia as a newly eligible candidate for Compact development.
The selection acknowledges Liberia’s strides in improving its performance on the MCC scorecard and its commitment to advancing economic and democratic governance reforms.
The MCC Board also highlighted the opportunities provided by the recently enacted Millennium Challenge Corporation Candidate Country Reform Act, which aims to enhance the impact and reach of MCC programs globally.
The upcoming visit underscores MCC’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s development priorities and strengthening its capacity to implement transformative reforms under the Compact initiative.
