
(The Liberia National Police (LNP) on Saturday, May 18, 2024, disclosed that it has arrested a motorcyclist, Christian Smith for illegal possession of a weapon.
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, at about 5 AM, alleged suspect Christian Smith violently ran into the checkpoint at Vamoma Junction along Tubman Boulevard.
Responding Officers’ report states that, while cyclist Smith was escaping, he ran into a moving vehicle in the opposite direction when he saw a Police vehicle ahead of him.
As a result of his accident, he sustained a fracture on his left heel, knee, and ankle, and was rushed to the trauma procedure room at the JFK Hospital.
The report further reveals that during the medical examination, he was discovered with a single barrow short gun and Two rounds.
Currently, the accident victim now suspect is under Police custody while undergoing treatment, pending investigation.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Hon. Gregory O.W. Coleman has honored a meeting with the Authorities of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) on health concerns over the use of a helmet among multiple passengers by motorcyclists.
On Friday, May 17, 2024, both Institutions observed safety regulations to avoid the transmission of pathogenic organisms and ways of reducing head injuries during road traffic accidents when commuting to various destinations.
IGP. Coleman and NPHIL have mandated all motorcyclists and passengers to adhere to the below hygiene measures:
1. Motorcyclists should clean their helmets regularly (daily, weekly, or monthly) using disinfectant sprays;
2. Motorcyclists should avoid placing their gloves inside their helmets;
3. Passengers should cover their heads before wearing a helmet;
4. Passengers may choose to wear a nose mask for additional protection;
5. Passengers who frequently travel by motorcycle, should consider carrying their own helmets and sanitizer spray.
The LNP headed by Inspector General of Police, Col. Coleman, and the Director General of NPHIL, Hon. Jane A. McCauley is encouraging the general public to remain law abiding as they express their commitment to the protection and safety of all residents and road users across the Country.
