The Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has issued a condemnation of President Joseph Boakai’s recent remarks made in Lofa County, which the party views as an alarming endorsement of corruption.

In a statement that has raised eyebrows across the nation, President Boakai suggested that corrupt government officials could divert public funds, provided that their ill-gotten gains are used to aid the poor. This troubling assertion not only undermines the integrity of Liberia’s government and institutions but also sets a dangerous precedent for governance.

The MPC expressed its dismay at the President’s comments, which imply that theft from the public purse could be justified if it is purportedly used to benefit the Liberian people. This represents a significant misstep for a leader who should be prioritizing transparency, accountability, and the principles of good governance. It is disheartening that instead of focusing on eradicating corruption and addressing the root causes of poverty, President Boakai has seemingly chosen to validate corrupt practices as a means of redistribution.

Furthermore, the MPC argues that true leadership cannot be built on the foundation of corruption. The tolerance or encouragement of corrupt behavior by President Boakai is unacceptable under any circumstances. His statement reflects a troubling lack of commitment to combating corruption, sending a dangerous message that stealing from the state is permissible if it is done with the intention of benefiting the less fortunate. This stance contradicts the values of good governance, fairness, and justice, and perpetuates a culture of impunity.

The MPC emphasizes that such remarks undermine the critical work needed to restore trust in the Liberian government and to foster a society based on fairness and transparency. For decades, the Liberian populace has endured corrupt leadership, and it is imperative that the current administration takes a stand against such practices.

In light of these concerns, the MPC is calling on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to retract his statement and take immediate steps to demonstrate a genuine commitment to eradicating corruption within the government.

Under the leadership of Simeon Freeman, the MPC is dedicated to creating a future where transparency and accountability are paramount. If elected, the party pledges to prioritize the fight against corruption, ensuring that all government officials adhere to the highest standards of integrity and that any form of corruption within their administration is not tolerated.

The Movement for Progressive Change stands firm in its commitment to holding the government accountable and urges all current officials to reject President Boakai’s dangerous statements. It is time to restore integrity in leadership and work collaboratively to address the challenges facing Liberia.

The MPC reassures Liberian citizens to remain courageous as they continue to advocate for transparency, accountability, change, and justice. The party insists that President Boakai must be held accountable for both his statements and actions.
