Monrovia City Court Magistrate Ben Bargo has ordered that 25-year-old Malison Garpeh be remanded to Monrovia Central Prison following his arrest for the brutal murder of his girlfriend and her daughter. The tragic incident occurred on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Garpeh will remain in pretrial detention at the prison until his trial. If convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of fifty years in prison.

The Liberia National Police launched an investigation into the allegations against Garpeh, leading to charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault. He is accused of killing his girlfriend, 21-year-old Promise Gowah, who was six months pregnant, along with her six-year-old daughter, Faith Miracle Davies.

According to the police charge, “Given the facts established in this case, coupled with the chop wounds observed on both victims, the investigation has resolved to charge defendant Malison Garpeh with the crimes of Murder and Aggravated Assault in violation of Chapter 14, Subchapter A, Sections 14.1 and 14.20 of the revised penal law of Liberia, pending trial by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

The police investigation revealed that Gowah and Garpeh had been in a relationship for less than a year and were living together in a three-bedroom house in Hast Town, Robertsville, White Plain, Montserrado County, where Garpeh served as the caretaker.

The findings indicate that before the tragic event, Gowah had been cohabitating with Garpeh for eleven months. At the time of her death, she was five months pregnant and had her daughter, Faith Miracle Davies, from a previous relationship living with them.

The Police reported that defendant Malison Garpeh had gone to bed with his girlfriend victim Promise Bowah, along with foster daughter Faith Miracle Davies, on the night of Thursday, September 26, 2024, when defendant  Mallson Garpeh knowingly, Intentionally, and purposely committed the gruesome murder under circumstances

manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life against victims Promise Bowah and Faith Miracle Davies, he fled through the back door of the house and went into hiding in a nearby Cassava Farm for Three (3) days before being arrested after a search was done by a citizen of Hast Town, Robertsville, White Plain, Montserrado County.

Despite the police investigation not establishing the reason for the murder of victims Promise Bowah and Faith Miracle, family claims have it that the deceased was washing the perpetrator’s clothes and discovered a traditional charm, which she engaged him about that led to confusion and that he left the area and returned the same night to allegedly carry out the act.

However, others have it that the perpetrator had earlier complained about his late girlfriend being in an extra relationship and is alleged to be pregnant for another person.
