– Alex Williams confessed and apologized

Alex Williams, the former Deputy Director General and National Census Project Coordinator of the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) and baptized vocal critic of Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee, has tendered his fervent apologies for what he sees as a dishonest attack on the Mayor’s character, thus describing him as his foster father.

It has been characterized as an astounding and unimaginable experience, considering the fact that Williams is notorious for his persistent vocal criticism, personal attacks, and how he often crafts horrific allegations against the Mayor’s character.

However, it’s arguably believable for one to understand that the sensitivity of Williams’ consciousness has been restored, as he acknowledges the Mayor’s apt role in his life while now regretting his actions.

“My father is dead, but I see Koijee as more like a father to me. You all may not understand, but I am convinced that I should have never discussed anything about him, whether factual or not”.

Amid the unsubstantiated accusation against the character of Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee, in less than a week, two people have confessed and apologized to Mayor Koijee for being used by opposition politicians to malign his character.

The latest of them is Alex Williams, who repeatedly used the Spoon TV network to channel unwonted statements against the character of Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee. It was also vividly proven that Alex was one of those who was erroneously influenced by former Spoon Boss Stanton Whitherspoon to have the Mayor engulfed in a startling situation that would have resulted in a possible sanction by the US government.

Whitherspoon, along with former TRC Commissioner Jerome Verdier, prompted Alex Williams to resign his position during the census process and later arrange for him to travel to the U.S. to serve as a witness to what they term a possible sanction on Mayor Koijee and the government of Liberia.

Alex, in his apology via his social media handle, expressed his regret for accepting to discuss Mayor Koijee, something he promised that he would’ve never done. He apologized to Mayor Koijee for being misled and asked for forgiveness.

“I don’t want to forget the many good things he did for me. Koijee is one of the major reasons I am who I am today, and so I want to again publicly use this medium to apologize to him. My father is dead, but I see Koijee as more like a father to me. You all may not understand, but I am convinced that I should have never discussed anything about him, whether factual or not.” Alex revealed

Alex’s apology comes in the wake of another confession by another person who was used by opposition leaders Benoni Urey and Henry Costa to lie to the government and Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee.

“All the statements I made in 2019 at the headquarters of the National Election Commission, implicating Koijee in human rights violations and alleging that the CDC government smuggled firearms into the country and stored them on a farm in Gbarnga, were orchestrated by Hon. Benoni Urey. He promised to protect me after making these wide-ranging allegations against the government, but he failed to do so,” Ms. Taylor revealed.

A few months ago, a series of recordings featuring telephone conversations between the Director of the Monrovia City Police and several individuals in the United States, including Alex Williams, Cllr. Jerome Verdier, and Sheik Sackor, revealed a plot by the men after pressuring the Director to make statements against the Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee, in exchange for their assistance in securing his permanent stay in the United States through asylum.

In the recordings, the men in conversation with Director Garwo concocted a plan to issue the MCC Police Chief asylum if he revealed sensitive and false information on the Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee.

Verdier and co-conspirators’ key intent, as per the recording, was to have an insider make confessions that would corroborate a series of wild and yet-to-be-proven allegations they have made against Koijee and other officials of the Weah-led government.

He also encouraged Garwo to resign from his post and even offered to write the resignation letter on his behalf, which he did and shared with Sheik Sackor for approval.

Alex Williams was heard in one of the telephone conversations encouraging MCC Police Director Thomas Garwo to just abide by the man’s request and be patient, as it was the surest way for him to remain in the States by means of asylum.

The making up of false stories and citing safety and security concerns by Liberians overstaying their visas in the United States has become a common practice among most of those who intend to stay in the United States permanently.

By their actions, US Immigration gets misled into providing asylum to individuals who have given false and unverified information or basically distorted facts by Cllr. Jerome Verdier.

As part of the false plan, the team managed to have Director Garwo link the Mayor to happenings at the home of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, an allegation earlier made by Verdier and found to be unsubstantiated by the Liberia National Police after the Mayor turned himself in for investigation.

In addition to Williams’ awkward actions toward the Monrovia City Mayor and government, the effectiveness of the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) to professionally conduct the national household and population census was seriously challenged by the former Deputy Director General for Statistics and Data Processing, J. Alex Williams.

Alex Williams, who was on Monday, November 14, 2022, sacked along with his boss, Acting Director General Wilmot Smith, by President Weah for “administrative reasons”, called on the Government of Liberia to muster the courage and call off the census, as he believed any data derived from the exercise would have been useless.

“This census is going to be a census of uselessness. The data is going to be useless, just as the individuals conducting the census are useless. There is absolutely nothing you can do with this data. It is poor, and they must muster the courage to cut it off, because they are going to be wasting resources from the partners, the donors, and the government,” Williams cautioned.

He stressed, “On the day of proclamation, which is the D-day, you are supposed to count not less than 50% of the population. If you miss out on it, the rest of the days are for a callback. The Liberian people are tired already. They know that it was a fiasco. Everywhere, nobody went to them on Census Day,” Williams stated.

Moreover, the former LISGIS Deputy Director General and National Census Project Coordinator averred that the census process never had credibility because the system got flooded with over 3,000 individuals who never applied, were never shortlisted, nor trained, but were used to conduct the census.

“In Lofa, there are 23 people who did not go through the training. They have received more than US$200, two times what others are receiving. They did not participate in the training; they are not on the final list, but they are receiving it. They just pay money to people they don’t even know. Even with the final listing that they put out today, there are over 3,000 people who did not apply and who never attended the training. This thing is shameful. Muster the courage. Cut it off. Remove Wilmot Smith, Lawrence George, and Francis Wreh. Bring in new people who have credibility and who know the subject matter. Let them preside over the institution and the census. Give Liberia hope. Conduct new training. Pay those who are owed. And let’s have a census early next year because we cannot have the census in December as that is the festive season and there will be huge migration and emigration trends during the season,” Williams advised.
