Monrovia, Liberia The Elections Magistrates of the National Elections Commission (NEC) over the weekend issued a rebuttal to recent allegations published in the Daily Observer newspaper on February 6, 2025, and subsequently aired on the Truth Breakfast Show on February 7, 2025. These reports falsely claimed that 18 Elections Magistrates have taken a position in support of the reinstatement of the suspended NEC Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah.
In a press statement delivered on February 8, 2025, the Magistrates categorically denied these allegations, describing them as “misleading, completely false, and unfounded.” The statement emphasized that such claims undermine the credibility of the NEC and its ongoing preparations for the upcoming Senatorial By-Election in Nimba County.
A Firm Denial
The Magistrates stated unequivocally that they have neither individually nor collectively engaged in any discussions or actions aimed at influencing the reinstatement of Madam Lansanah. “As Elections Magistrates, we are guided by the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and professionalism,” the statement read. “Any attempt to associate us with political maneuvering is a direct attack on our integrity and the independence of the Commission.”

They called on the *Daily Observer* and the *Truth Breakfast Show* to exercise responsible journalism by verifying facts before disseminating information that could harm individuals and institutions.
“We demand an immediate retraction of these false allegations and a formal clarification to prevent further misinformation,” the statement declared. The Magistrates also cautioned against the spread of unverified reports, warning that such actions could erode public trust in the NEC and jeopardize the integrity of Liberia’s electoral process.
Commitment to Electoral Integrity
Reaffirming their dedication to their duties, the Magistrates emphasized their commitment to conducting the electoral process with the highest level of professionalism and transparency. “Our focus remains on fulfilling our responsibilities as mandated by the National Elections Commission,” the statement read. “We will not be distracted by baseless allegations, and we remain resolute in our mission to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.”
