-As By-election Concludes Peacefully

Ganta, Nimba County – Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC) has declared Tuesday’s senatorial by-election in Nimba County a resounding success, with Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah personally commending voters for their peaceful participation.
Speaking at a late-night press conference after polls closed at 6:00 PM sharp, an visibly relieved Lansanah made an unprecedented declaration: “I am delighted to announce this emotionally charged election has concluded without a single reported incident of violence.”
The by-election called to replace the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson, saw polling stations open punctually at 8:00 AM across Nimba’s nine electoral districts. Lansanah particularly praised what she called “the maturity and resilience” of Nimba voters, who she said demonstrated “the true spirit of democratic participation.”
The Unanswered Question
However, the NEC chair carefully avoided declaring victory on one critical metric: “At this stage, we cannot characterize turnout as either high or low,” Lansanah cautioned, explaining that definitive numbers would only emerge after completing the vote count.
In a significant revelation, Lansanah confirmed the NEC’s Legal Section had received zero formal complaints about electoral irregularities—a stark contrast to previous elections marred by disputes.
