Monrovia: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, has concluded a successful high-level meeting with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, held over the weekend in Ankara, Türkiye. This meeting underscores the growing diplomatic relations between Liberia and Türkiye, aimed at fostering mutual development and cooperation.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Nyanti delivered a special message from His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia. In her address, she highlighted Liberia’s pressing infrastructure needs, particularly emphasizing the urgent requirement for government-to-government collaboration to revitalize the Roberts International Airport (RIA) and other critical development initiatives. President Boakai’s message reflects a strategic vision for Liberia’s future, where improved infrastructure plays a key role in driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
In a significant development following the discussions, Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Hon. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that President Erdoğan had instructed him to lead a high-level Turkish delegation to Liberia. This team will conduct a thorough assessment of RIA’s operational status and its potential for expansion. This initiative is a critical step toward modernizing Liberia’s transportation infrastructure, which is vital for facilitating trade and enhancing regional connectivity.
The visit by the Turkish delegation is not only a response to Liberia’s infrastructure needs but also represents a broader commitment by the Turkish government to engage with African nations. The discussions are part of a larger strategic dialogue aimed at upgrading RIA to meet international standards, increasing its operational capacity, and positioning it as a catalyst for economic growth.
Minister Uraloğlu expressed Türkiye’s favourable consideration of Liberia’s request for assistance. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to explore practical solutions to the transportation and operational challenges facing RIA. This proactive approach signals Türkiye’s intention to deepen its involvement in Liberia’s development agenda and serve as a reliable partner in overcoming infrastructural deficits.
These developments come on the heels of Foreign Minister Nyanti’s engagements at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where she advocated for Liberia’s development agenda and sought both financial and technical partnerships to propel national progress. Her efforts at the forum highlight the proactive stance of the Liberian government in reaching out to international partners and securing the necessary support for its ambitious infrastructure projects.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates its unwavering commitment to forging impactful partnerships that deliver tangible development outcomes. The focus on the transportation sector, which remains crucial for trade, tourism, and international cooperation, illustrates Liberia’s recognition of the importance of robust infrastructure in achieving sustainable development goals.
As discussions continue, both Liberia and Türkiye stand poised to strengthen their bilateral ties, with the potential for extensive collaboration that could significantly enhance Liberia’s infrastructure landscape and overall economic prospects.
