NIMBA COUNTY — In a classic display of leadership, the newly nominated Superintendent of Nimba County, Madam Kou Meapeh Gono has finally resolved a long-standing stalemate in the county’s sports steering committee between the former and current steering committee chairs.

The landmark negotiation saw former Chairman Adonis David Menlor turning over sports materials that were in his possession on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Ganta.

It can be recalled that Menlor’s pre-financing contract was surprisingly terminated by former Superintendent Nelson Korquoi in November with just a week to the commencement of the National County Sports.

Though the county meet could later be postponed, however, the move by the former superintendent generated widespread public condemnation as citizens were left dumbfounded over the rationale of dismissing a chairman of a Steering committee that ended more than a decade trophy drought for Nimba.

For prematurely terminating his contract, Chairman Menlor, too responded by holding onto the official Team jerseys and 50 pieces of football until the county paid his expenses incurred as part of the pre-financing agreement.

Letter to Pre-finance the county teams is a tradition that allows the Nimba County Sports Steering Committee Chairman to source findings to support the teams during county meets for onward payment after the tournament.

Based on her charismatic leadership style, Madam Gono swiftly moved to Nimba and held fruitful discussions with Menlor who guided Nimba to win the tournament two times.

She thanked him for his service to the county and at the same time extolled him for his patriotic decision to have turned over the materials which demonstrates love for the county.

Menlor thanked Madame Gono for the intervention and promised to work with her administration in other capacities to move the county forward.

What Are People Saying?

The nomination of Madam Gono initially created mixed reactions with some claiming that she was not familiar with realities on grounds due to her long residency in the United States.

However, contrary to said perception, Madam Gono has quickly hit the ground running with a series of community entries, interacting with the movers and shakers of the county – a move which many political pundits said projects a good start.

They believed such interaction demonstrates Gono’s consultative leadership style which is crucial to restoring lost matured service delivery to the county.

Gono and fellow nominees are expected to face a Senate confirmation hearing this Monday, April 8, 2024.

In a related development, Superintendent Gono has presented a whooping US$1,000.00 motivational package to the Nimba Kwado Football.

The money is intended to stimulate the team’s morale as they struggle to escape relegation this season.

Speaking to the players ahead of their goalless draw with old lady Invincible Eleven in Sanniquellie, Gono challenged the 1st Division team to give their best in a bid to pave the way for victory for the county ahead of the upcoming county meet.

She said the name of the team signifies indomitable and the players must play as such.
