An emerging Project Management Professional and Database Management expert Fredee Konway has termed the National Identification Registry (NIR) two million enrollment project recently launched in Monrovia as a milestone achievement in boosting Liberian economic development and strengthening security survilence.
Mr. Fredee Konway who is currently pursuing his master’s in Project Management at the People’s Republic of China at the Yunnan University of Finance and Economics believes that the implementation of the initiative will serve as a boost for the country’s revenue generation and other sectors of government.
He further contended that the prioritization of citizen identification is a boost to Liberia’s development and security operation, which he said will enable the country to combat crimes and criminals.
“Good governance and transparency serve as the backbone of the ARREST Agenda, and this biometric enrollment project is a critical tool in ensuring accountability, efficiency, and trust under the UP-led government. By providing secure and verifiable identities for two million citizens, it will enhance public service delivery, ensuring social welfare programs, improved electoral transparency—ensuring a credible voter roll and democratic participation and above security operation strengthening and economics growth ” he asserted.
Recently, the National Identification Registry (NIR) launched and subsequently embarked on the enrollment of two million Liberian citizens into the National Biometric Data System. The National Biometric Data System is part of the World Bank-funded US$30 million initiative under the Governance Reform and Accountability Transformation (GREAT) project.
The GREAT project seeks to enhance digital access to selected public services, raise tax revenue, and improve the openness of accountability institutions in Liberia with NIR being among government agencies benefiting entities for the project implementation.
Meanwhile, Konway said, the World Bank funded US$30million
under the Governance Reform and Accountability Transformation (GREAT) project is not just a project but rather a national milestone that aligns with the ARREST Agenda of the UP-led government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, that prioritizes, Agriculture, Roads and Infrastructure, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation and Healthcare, and Tourism.
Mr. Konway speaking in an interview with the New Dawn Newspaper described the enrollment as a significant move by the NIR Executive Director, Mr. Andrew Peters to ensure that multiple issues confronting the country are resolved through what he termed as population accountability.
He further noted that the NIR Executive Director, Andrew Peters, has made significant gains at the entity since his ascendency through what is being described as a visionary leader with his unwavering dedication to national development has made NIR one of the most functional institutions of government.
According to Konway, through the work of the NIR under the leadership of Honorable Andrew Peters, Liberia is advancing toward a modern, digitized governance system that promotes efficiency, accountability, and progress which are enshrined in the pillars of President Boakai’s commitment to the people of Liberia.
He further stated that, it will Strengthen national security by reducing identity fraud and illegal activities; noting that the initiative is also a support for economic inclusion thus allowing more Liberians to access financial services and employment opportunities.
