-Says It Is a “Rescue in Action” for Liberia’s Economy

Monrovia, Liberia – The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has introduced the 5/90 lottery game, a new initiative that Deputy Director General for Lotto Games, Richlue Burphy, has described as a “rescue in action” aligned with the government’s broader agenda to stimulate economic growth and improve citizens’ livelihoods.
The 5/90 lottery, awarded to Blue Star Hi-Tech Liberia Limited through an international competitive bid on February 20, 2025, promises to revolutionize Liberia’s gaming industry while generating substantial revenue for national development. The game, designed to enhance the gaming experience and increase winning opportunities, has already sparked enthusiasm across the country.
During a recent appearance on Punch FM Radio, Burphy emphasized that the 5/90 lottery is more than just a form of entertainment. He described it as a strategic tool to generate funds for critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
“The 5/90 lottery is a real rescue in action because it aligns perfectly with the government’s rescue agenda, which seeks to uplift the lives of our citizens and stimulate economic growth,” Burphy stated.
He further explained that the lottery is expected to raise millions of dollars annually, which will be channeled into the national budget and targeted programs to support vulnerable groups, including orphans, the elderly, disadvantaged communities, and people living with disabilities.
“This revenue will be crucial for funding various programs and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for our citizens,” Burphy noted. “We are committed to transparency and accountability in how these funds are utilized, particularly through our corporate social responsibility initiatives.”
Burphy also highlighted the economic ripple effects of the 5/90 lottery, including job creation and community engagement. He revealed that the NLA plans to collaborate with local organizations, media outlets, and residents to ensure the lottery’s benefits reach all segments of society.
“We want to ensure that the 5/90 lottery is inclusive and accessible to everyone,” he said. “We will work closely with the community and the media to promote responsible gaming and educate the public about the benefits of participating in the lottery.”
Addressing concerns about gambling addiction, Burphy assured the public that the NLA is taking proactive measures to promote responsible gaming. “We take the issue of gambling addiction very seriously. As part of our rollout plan, we will implement measures to ensure responsible gaming practices,” he said.
Expressing optimism about the lottery’s success, Burphy credited the collaborative efforts of his colleagues at the NLA, including his boss, for the initiative’s promising start. He affirmed the authority’s commitment to closely monitoring the lottery’s performance and making necessary adjustments to ensure its sustainability and success.
“We are committed to making this lottery a sustainable and beneficial program for all Liberians,” Burphy concluded.
