– Signs MOU with CRBG geared to Develop Liberia’s Ports

Monrovia, Liberia – September 6, 2024: The National Port Authority (NPA) of Liberia has entered into a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China Railway Bridge Group (CRBG) to design and develop master plans for all of Liberia’s ports. This strategic partnership will also focus on the expansion of the Freeport of Monrovia and the Port of Buchanan, positioning Liberia’s ports to meet the demands of the 21st century.

According to a dispatch from China, the MOU was signed by Hon. Sekou A.M. Dukuly, Managing Director of the NPA, in the presence of His Excellency President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Sylvester Grisby, and other members of the Liberian delegation. Two esteemed members of the NPA board, Hon. Saar Jonny, Senior Economic Advisor to the President, and Hon. Bedell Sandi, were also present to witness this historic moment.

This collaboration with CRBG is expected to bring significant advancements in port infrastructure, creating a gateway for increased trade, enhanced logistical capacity, and economic growth for Liberia. Within the next 30 days, CRBG’s technical team will conduct their second visit to Liberia to assess the next steps in advancing the project.

Hon. Dukuly emphasized the significance of this partnership, noting, “The signing of this MOU represents a major milestone for Liberia’s ports. By leveraging CRBG’s global expertise, we are committed to transforming our port infrastructure to facilitate greater economic activity and provide a modernized, efficient platform for international trade.”

The development of the Freeport of Monrovia and the Port of Buchanan will be instrumental in supporting Liberia’s economic transformation, as both ports play a critical role in connecting Liberia to global markets. The master plans aim to upgrade existing infrastructure, boost capacity, and introduce cutting-edge technology to optimize operations.
