The Administrator of Medical Center in Marshall City Lower Margibi County, James Peters, has disclosed that due to the lack of electricity at the facility, nurses are delivering pregnant women and taking care of emergencies with phone lights.

Disclosing some of the hospital challenges to President Joseph N. Boakai during his visit over the weekend, October 26, 2024, the administrator stated that since the Liberia Electricity Cooperation (LEC) sent their team to assess electricity at the hospital, nothing has been done.

According to him, the hospital serves about seven communities, including District One in Grand Bassa County, catering to approximately 4900 population. Peters further added that the only ambulance the hospital has had broken down, which has caused a major setback for patients, adding that due to the sand from the ocean, the fence wire of the facility has also gotten damaged. Meanwhile, he called on the President to intervene in their land issue because the land on which the hospital is situated belongs to the Methodist, saying the administration of the hospital has been asked to buy the land.

For his part, President Boakai lauded the nurses and administrators at the hospital for their sacrificial work toward the people of Marshall City. The Liberian leader assured them of his government’s commitment to the facility of the hospital, stating that his government has taken note of the challenges that were mentioned.

“There is no hospital that can work without electricity. I can assure you that we will work with the Ministry of Health to give support to this facility,” Boakai assured. The Liberian leader added that the challenges faced by the hospital are not just about the nurses and administrators but the citizens themselves.

“Take a piece of paper and write all of your needs and sign it; we will talk with the minister of health and with ourselves, anything we can do to help will be done,” he narrated.
