The Liberian National Fire and Rescue Service, with support from the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is set to admit more than twenty female fire fighters into its training academy on Monday, November 27, 2023. 

The training which aimed at increasing and strengthening gender diversity and active participation by equipping female firefighters with tactical driving skills required for them to grow and develop professionally, will enable female law enforcement officers undergo a comprehensive three-month driving training course focused on improving their knowledge and skills in Tactical Driving.

The authority of the Liberia National Fire Service revealed that the three-month long training will be hosted at the Liberia National Fire Service Training Academy located at Starbase, Bushrod Island, Monrovia Liberia. Accordi9ng to the LNFRS, it will strengthen the assistance and support being provided by IDLO, the Liberia National Fire and Rescue Service’s.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the LNFS,  Col. Alkex K. Dickson, is expected to hand over to the LNFS Training Academy, a newly acquired Toyota four-door pickup.  In addition, Col. Dickson will also make available to the training academy, mattresses, and fans for use by the academy during the training period. 

Col. Alex K. Dickson, asserted that under his leadership the National Fire and Rescue Service has continued to witness unprecedented transformation and advancement.

He noted that transformation has ultimately led to the rebranding of the entity and has enhanced the overall significance of the firefighting profession and is creating more attractions nationwide.

The Liberia National Fire Services (LNFS) was established in 1963 to safeguard the lives and properties of Liberians and non-Liberians from the scourge of destructive fire, across the length and breadth of the country, as well as to promote efficient fire prevention services.

Toward the full attainment of the overall mission statement of the agency, four (4) basic areas of services are offered including Fire prevention – This is an activity of fire safety involving the regular inspection of various types of occupancies and vehicles, providing education for precautionary and protection measures that are necessary to ensure safety from fire, this is referred to as fighting the fire before its occurrence, and Firefighting . This activity involves the physical combat of the outbreak, burning and spread of fire, which requires the combination of basic training with professional skills, and the use of proper equipment and tools-fighting fire during the occurrence.
