Several Police officers along the Nimba-Monrovia highway have been caught extorting money from drivers commuting along the way
The exposure took place when Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, General Gregory Coleman encountered Highway Patrol officers exploiting drivers for bribes.
According to Liberia National Police – IG Coleman, the incident unfolded earlier this afternoon while traveling to Nimba.
“I saw something really concerning. Some highway patrol officers were bothering drivers and taking bribes. This is a clear sign of some of the key issues we need to tackle to keep We standards high,” Coleman stated.
Coleman, known for his strong stance on police accountability, emphasized that such behavior is not only a breach of law but a violation of the core values upheld by the force. “What truly counts is our strong commitment to serving with honesty and integrity. These officers have been turned over to the Professional Standards Division for further disciplinary actions,” Standards-based added.
The incident has raised u concerns over ongoing issues within the highway patrol, prompting an immediate investigation into the involved officers. Inspector General Coleman reassured the public that the department is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
“We are committed to restoring public trust and ensuring that every officer serves with integrity, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law,” said Coleman. His comments reflect the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight and ensure accountability across all law enforcement divisions.
