Monrovia, Monday, February 10, 2025: The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Vatican City State, the Apostolic Episcopal See of the Bishop of Rome, Ex Cathedra, and the Universal Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the World Catholic Church on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the establishment of the Vatican City State on February 11, 2025.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, in his message to His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of the Vatican City State, President Boakai extended heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia, and in his own name. 

President Boakai noted with great pleasure that he acknowledge the enduring and faithful relationship between the Vatican and Liberia as evidence of our meeting last year, as we discussed and prayed for the attainment of social justice and world peace.

The Liberian leader stated that the bond between Liberia and the Vatican borne significant benefits, particularly in the field of education, where the Catholic school system has played a vital role in shaping a steady stream of educated professionals who continue to contribute to the development and the function of our country. 

He furthered that the Church’s advocacy for human rights, the rule of law, and its broader social and economic contributions have been invaluable. 

He then prayed that the longstanding and cherished relationship between the two nations would continue to flourish under the guidance and grace of the Lord.
