As the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan continues, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has launched a sustentative donation gesture to mosques across Liberia, in cash and kind.

The President’s gesture, in a total of 5,500 bags of 25kg rice and cash to the Islamic community was launched Thursday, April 4, 2024, by the Minister of State without Portfolio, Mrs. Mamaka Bility, at the famous Benson Street Mosque in Monrovia.

Thursday’s outreach of Mr. Boakai’s goodwill affected Benson Street, Newport Street, Gurley Street, the Salafiya, New Georgia, Chicken Farm, Black Ginnah, Fish Market, and the 17th Street, Sinkor (United Dawah Ummah High School) Mosques. At the gesture launch at the Benson Street Mosque, 50 bags of rice and $LD25,000 were presented to the leadership. Ms. Mamaka Bility said each mosque highlighted in the scope of the gesture will receive similar worth of items.

Minister Bility expressed her honor on behalf of the President and said the initiative is a demonstration of the Mr. Boakai’s commitment to all religions. She emphasized that it is intended for those who can’t afford and need it the most. The Minister of State without portfolio encouraged Muslims to embrace the donation and reminded them of the teaching of Ramadan.

She further admonished Muslims to remember the words of Prophet Mohammed and emphasized that the president’s donation exemplified his commitment to all religions. From his end, Mohammed Kanneh, the Secretary General of the ImanCouncil of Liberia thanked the President for the donation and as well extended the Chief Imman fondness.

Imam Kanneh brands it as a generous donation and assures that it will be used for the intended purpose. He assured the Islamiccommunity’s spiritual commitment to the government and Liberia at large. At Newport Street Mosque, Lasanah Kanteh embraced the donation. He thanked the office of the President and assured the mosque’s commitment to the nation through prayers.

During the next stop at the Gurley Street Mosque, the religious leaders applauded President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for the gesture. They said it is the first in a long time for the mosque to receive said quantity of supply from the government further noted that the initiative is apt and warrants veneration because it comes on the most holy day of the month of Ramadan.

Interestingly, religious leaders’ testimony at Chicken Farm Mosque concurs with those at Gurley Street Mosque, as they noted that though they have been gifted by other governments during the fast month, this year’s gesture is beyond what they have gotten in the past.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s Ramadan gesture continues across the country. Throughout his life, the Liberian Leader has stood out excellent when it comes to religious tolerance.

Ramathan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer (salah), reflection, and community. A commemoration of Muhammad’s first revelation,[10] the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

Fasting from dawn to sunset is obligatory (fard) for all adult Muslims who are not acutely or chronically ill, traveling, elderly, breastfeeding, diabetic, pregnant, or menstruating.[14] The predawn meal is referred to as suhur, and the nightly feast that breaks the fast is called iftar.
