-Aims at strengthening research

Liberia’s President and Visitor to the University of Liberia will today, October 23, 2024, for the first time in the history of Liberia officially launch the University of Liberia Doctoral program in Monrovia under the theme ‘’Strengthening research and innovation for higher Education the theme transformation in Liberia’’.

The program when launched will offer PHD in curriculum with an average of 62  credits and a duration of four to five years, PHD in educational administration, and PHD in measurement and evaluation with the same credit and years applied. Furthermore, the program will offer PHD in Biomedical sciences immunology/ virology microbiology, and PHD in Public Health biostatistics epidemiology one health with 91-94 credits and four to five years of studies.

Addressing a perpetrator press conference Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in the Capitol Hill main campus conference room, the University of Liberia Acting President, Prof. Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh said that after several years of preparation and planning, the University of Liberia will officially launch its PHD program to advance research across the country.

‘’ Tomorrow is a big day in the history of higher education and the University of Liberia. The President of Liberia and Visitor of the University of Liberia, Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. will officially launch our doctoral studies program that will lead to the awarding of a terminal degree starting with health sciences and educational administration. The theme of the symposium which will follow a formal launch under the theme ‘’strengthening research and innovation for higher education the theme transformation in Liberia’ ’he added. He said that the program will be held at the Capitol Hill Campus adding that they have extended invitations to participants and facilitators for the symposium.

Meanwhile, providing other updates on the status of the University of Liberia, he noted that the new academic year for 2024 will officially commence on November 18, 2024, while the graduate school entrance examination will be administered December 2-7, 2024. He further indicated that the new academic year will end on April 7, 2025, adding that the administration has done a comprehensive review of what is needed for the full resumption of the academic year and it includes befitting the classroom, restroom, and internet connectivity.

‘’We are still working. However, we will ensure that those things are put in place before the opening of school. I am also pleased to report that the University had a successfulcommencement convocation for seven colleges professional schools and graduate programs. We were pleased to graduate two thousand and ninety-two students. One hundred and seventy-seven from the Amos C. Sawyer College, eight hundred and eight four from the Business College, one hundred and forty-nine from the College of Education, four hundred and seventeen from Science and Technology, and two hundred and ninety-two from the Agriculture College, one hundred and thirty-seven from the Engineering College among others’’ he added. According to him, these are highly qualified graduates who have the blessing of the university, noting that they will be looking to them as they enter the labor force nationally, regionally, and internationally.

He further explained that the University has received the operational subsidies in the amount of one hundred and ninety-four thousand United States dollars from the government as final payment for the academic years 2023-2024, while the salary for 2024 has been paid in full with an outstanding payment of adjunct faculties in the amount of LD$ 28.9 million, adding that they are working hard to ensure that the payment is done.
