President George M. Weah has written the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate of the 54th Legislature to “consider” 19 pending bills.
The President’s communication was read on Thursday, May 25, as “Status of Executive Bills Submitted and Pending at the Honorable House of Representatives of the 54th Legislature of the Republic of Liberia.”
Giving the status of the bills, Deputy Chief Clerk Sayfurh Geplay said most of the bills are in the committee’s room under research, while two of the bills are pending the Senate’s concurrence.
The 19 bills are:
1. The International Renewable Energy Agency [IRENA]
2. Act to Establish the West Africa Police Information System [WAPIS] in Liberia
3. An Act to Amend Title 26 of the Liberian Codes of Law Revised, Penal Law Chapters 11, 14, 15, and 50 relating to sentencing and the death penalty
4. Legal Aid Act of 2022
5. Act to amend certain provisions of the new elections law of 1986 [line voted and sent back to the Legislature]
6. The bank-financial institution-and bank financial holding companies act, 2022
7. The Liberia Correction Service [LCS] Act
8. An act amending Chapter 15, offenses against properties, and Subchapter D, theft and related offenses, of the penal law title 26 Liberian Code of Law Revised, to add thereto Section 15.63 insider trading 15.64 market manipulations, 15.65 legal trafficking in other goods
9. An act to provide for the prohibition, prevention, detention, repose, and prosecution of cybercrime to be known as the Cybercrime Act 2021
10. Agreement establishing the African continental free trade area [AFCFTA]
11. An act to establish the civil servant commission
12. An Act prohibiting the tenure of public officials within the executive branch of government
13. Act to endorse the national youth policy of Liberia: an agenda for action
14. The reversed and restated chapter of the University of Liberia
15. International Solar Alliance [ISA] Framework Agreement
16. An investment incentive contract between the government and Monrovia Mining Corporation
17. Maritime Zones Act 2020
18. A reversed public health law in Liberia
19. Export Credit Facility Agreement and Down Payment Facility Agreement, both signed between the Republic of Liberia through its Ministry of Finance and Development as borrowed and arranged by Bank Leumi Le Israel B.M. with Bank Leumi Le Israel B.M. acting as an agent.
