-For Disputed Election
Monrovia, Liberia – In compliance with the directive of the Resident Judge of the 9th Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) Interim Committee (IC) has officially released the timetable for the rerun of the disputed election held on November 19, 2022.
The PUL will convene an Extraordinary Congress on September 21, 2024, at the SKD Sports Complex in Monrovia, specifically to facilitate the rerun of this crucial election.
Beginning on September 5, the IC will publish the second provisional membership roster for verification, allowing members to confirm their details until September 10. Following this verification period, a cleaned and final membership roll will be released on September 14, in accordance with the Union’s Constitution and Code of Conduct, as mandated by the Court.
On September 16, the committee will restate the candidates from the 2022 disputed election and officially open the campaign period. From September 17 to 20, the committee will address logistical arrangements and outstanding issues, including the printing of ballot papers.
The Extraordinary Congress will feature a candidates’ debate on the day of the event, followed by polling, vote counting, and the announcement of results. Any grievances arising from the election process can be submitted from the announcement until 4 PM on September 22, with the committee set to address these concerns on September 23.
The induction of the newly elected officers is scheduled for September 30, coinciding with the 60th Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia. The IC plans to collaborate with the elected officials from September 24 onward to prepare for the induction ceremony. “Long live the PUL! Happy 60th Anniversary!” the committee proclaimed in their announcement.
