NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — The search for four individuals reported missing after a ferry capsized while crossing the Yar River remains ongoing, with no new developments in their recovery up to press time.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2024, as a team from District #7 Representative, Musa Hassan Bility’s camp was returning from a community program in District 2. The event focused on addressing local infrastructure needs, specifically a request for assistance in constructing a bridge at the Yar River crossing, which connects the towns of Tiapa and Payee.

According to Representative Bility, the ferry began to capsize, prompting the four passengers to jump into the river in a desperate attempt to save themselves. Among the missing are two of his staff members: his bodyguard, Morris, and his secretary, Lawrence, both of whom have not yet been located.

The Nimba County District #7 Representative wrote on Saturday, August 24, 2024: “Our team has experienced a tragic event. While returning from a program in District 2 Nimba County with Hon. Nya Flomo, where the people of the District requested our assistance in constructing a bridge at the Yar River crossing connecting Tiapa and Payee, D4-D2, the raft carrying our team capsized, leading to the disappearance of two individuals. Regrettably, my bodyguard and secretary are currently missing. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.”
