The standard bearer of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC), Mr. Simeon Freeman, has embarked on the cleaning and clearing of major garbage sites in Monrovia and its environs.

Over the weekend, MPC embarked on the clearing of the Red Hill Filed garbage and waste disposal site, along with several other communities in Central Monrovia and Paynesville, Red Lights, with the aims of boosting a healthy and hygienic environment for citizens.

The project, which is expected to be extended to Grand Bassa and other counties in the coming week, is currently valued at approximately five hundred thousand United States dollars.

During the clearing and cleaning of the Red Hill Field waste disposal site, citizens of the community stood in excitement and appreciation as the Yellow Machine and two trucks cleaned the environment and transferred the waste to its destined location.

Speaking in an interview with journalists at the Red Hill Filed Community garbage site Friday, MPC National Chairman Mr. Oniel Paasewe said that the gesture of Mr. Freeman is in accordance with Mr. Freeman’s concern about the livelihood of Liberians and their right to better and more hygienic living conditions free of preventable sickness.

According to him, the MPC has embarked on this process to wage war on sanitation by cleaning garbage across the country because Mr. Freeman believes that the clearing and cleaning of garbage in the cities will promote good and healthy lives for Liberians and protect them from common diseases like malaria and a running stomach, among others.

“We have embarked on the cleaning and clearing of garbage in the cities to produce a more hygienic condition for our people. This is just the kickoff area, but we now have our team around identifying garbage areas. From here, we will be in Duala, Central Monrovia, and Paynesville Community, particularly Red Light. Today, people are dying of preventable illnesses like malaria, colds, and running stomachs, and those things are caused by a dirty and unhygienic environment. The people told us that they had informed the city government along with the local authorities, but yet they refused to act, and so we too have decided to help the people promote better health and sanitation,” he stated.

Mr. Paasewe added that the project is also expected to be taken to Grand Bassa County this weekend. He termed the gesture as something that is not strange because Mr. Freeman and the MPC have been working to improve sanitation and empower Liberians across the country, especially women and youths.

“We have given out about five million Liberian dollars to market women. We hope that Monrovia City Cooperation can join us so that we can give the city a facelift. This is something that they should be doing, but because they don’t have concern for the plight of the people, they are not involved. The condition is deplorable, with garbage and poor drainage. Mr. Freeman has an investment in this country, so he prioritizes the Liberian people. This is not political, but it’s about saving lives,” he concluded.

In appreciation, Mr. Mohammed S. Dukuly expressed excitement and appreciation to Mr. Simeon Freeman and the entire MPC for listening to the concerns of the people of Red Hill Field Community to have their garbage removed and cleaned up.

According to him, the garbage overstayed at the location, and they applied all their means to get to the local authorities to have the dirty stuff cleared up, but they refused.

“This dirt you are seeing here today came from all over Red Hill Field Community. This dirty money spent over one year here is what makes it huge. We called on our commissioner many times, but they refused. Upon your appearance on Red Power FM, we decided to engage Mr. Freeman, and today, we have fulfilled what he promised. We want to say thank you, and we will forever be grateful to you and your team,” he concluded.
