In light of the rapid increase in educational institutions across Liberia, House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa has expressed concerns regarding the preparedness of the nation’s tertiary institutions. Speaking at the launch of the Joint National Education Stakeholders Retreat in Ganta, Nimba County, Koffa questioned whether Liberia has effectively evaluated the capabilities of its graduates in comparison to their peers in other regions.
Speaker Koffa accentuated the critical importance of upholding high educational standards to ensure that Liberian graduates are competitive on both regional and global stages. He called on educators to approach the awarding of degrees with honesty and integrity, emphasizing that the future of the country’s workforce depends on the quality of education provided.
The Speaker urged educational administrators to take pragmatic steps towards transforming the education sector, ensuring that students graduating from universities and colleges possess the necessary skills and competencies to succeed in an increasingly competitive job market.
Moreover, Speaker Koffa commended the Joint Legislative Education Committee for organizing the National Education Stakeholders Retreat, expressing his belief that the event would be instrumental in addressing the myriad challenges facing the education sector. He expressed optimism that the retreat would facilitate meaningful discussions and lead to reforms aimed at strengthening Liberia’s education system.
