The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Commerce & Industry and Judiciary to review a draft bill titled โ€œAn Act to Amend Section 5 of the National Investment Commission Act of 2010 to Include Sub-Section 5.3: Empowerment of Liberian-Owned Businesses.โ€

The decision was taken during the bodyโ€™s regular Thursday session, marking its 17th day sitting of the First Quarter of the 2nd Session.

The proposed amendment was submitted by Maryland County Electoral District #3, Representative Hon. Austin Taylor for the consideration and possible passage by the full House.

In his submission to Plenary, Hon. Taylor emphasized that the amendment, if enacted into law, will provide an exclusive legal framework aimed at empowering Liberian-owned businesses. He asserted that the bill seeks to mandate spending entities and foreign investors/companies to create opportunities that prioritize and leverage the growth of enterprises owned by Liberians.

Plenary has instructed the joint committee to scrutinize the draft legislation and report their findings and recommendations upon the resumption of session following the First Quarter Break.
