-For youths in Liberia

On August 7, 2024, a non-governmental organization Teach for Liberia, launched the Design for Change initiative and the ICAN Club, an innovative program aims to introduce 150 young people to a design thinking approach that emphasizes the development of local and sustainable solutions for Liberia.
Teach for Liberia Chief Executive Officer Madam Alicia Ann Caesar, announced the launch of the Design for Change initiative and the ICAN Club during an opening ceremony at the YMCA of Liberia.
In her remarks, Madam Caesar highlighted that the ICAN Club will specifically address the pressing issue of climate change, focusing on practical applications and hands-on curricula centered around improving waste management for primary school students in Liberia.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Liberia, creating a platform for Liberian youth to learn about the impacts of climate change and develop leadership skills.
Madam Caesar explained that the program will be conducted in phases, culminating in an Innovation Solutions Day. On this day, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their ideas based on what they have learned throughout the program. The winning team will be awarded school supplies as a reward for their creativity and innovation.
Furthermore, she emphasized that this initiative aligns with Goal 13 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which focuses on climate action. Madam Caesar encouraged all young people to seize this opportunity, urging them to think creatively and transform waste materials into valuable resources.
