Gen. Michael E. Langley, U.S. Marine Corps and the sixth commander of U.S. Africa Command has revealed that the US government, through its Africa Command, is set to boost the Arm Forces of Liberia’s capacity to enhance regional security.
The commander of the U.S. Africa Command, who is one of the seven joint-service geographic combatant commands and is responsible for all U.S. military operations and activities to protect and advance U.S. national interests in Africa, Gen. Michael E. Langley, intimated that for the protection of countries in the sub-region, AFRICOM is going to work with the Liberian army to boost its capacity to provide regional and internal security. “For the protection of countries in the sub-region, we are going to look and work with the AFL and lay those challenges.
Beginning next month, we do have some senior officers coming down from Stuart, and they are going to geographically layout those challenges.” In an engagement with the media at the US Embassy near Monrovia on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Gen. Langley intimated that challenges are also going to be addressed by domain within the army.
“We are going to lay out those challenges and address them by domain. Whether on land security or maritime security.” The US military personnel added that his presence in Liberia is to help the Arm Forces of Liberia address challenges and sort out opportunities. “Being in Liberia, I have been able to communicate, address challenges and also opportunities.”
In furtherance, he provided that AFRICOM is going to work with the Arm Forces of Liberia to address the challenges the army is confronted with by finding opportunities that are best suited to address those challenges. He said that the opportunities are to work together and address the challenges together.” “When I go to a country on behalf of the US, we recognize the challenges and find the opportunities to work together to address those challenges. The opportunities are to work together and address the challenges together.”
He intimated that, given the resources, the team will consider priorities within the army. He added that those priorities are going to be addressed either as a security problem or a government problem and that he is confident that the team will come up with a solution. “We will comprehensively look at resources based on the stressed area. We are going to come together and address whether it is a security problem or a government problem. These finders are excellent at that, and they will come up with a solution”
He continued by adding that the US government has seen the Russian Federation in Africa as a challenge caused by misinformation and disinformation that often result in instability. However, the US government is working on a security construct that is more than enough to block the aspirations of Liberia against misinformation and disinformation that exercise instability.
“We see the Russian Federation as a challenge across central Africa and up to Libia, destabilizing activities. And they are caused by misinformation and disinformation brought upon marginalized and influential population, sowing discord of belief and false story against civil society and central government.” “It is a security construct that is more than enough to block the aspirations of this country against misinformation and disinformation that exercise instability.”
At the same time, he said that he was able to learn a lot about the military and the Arm Forces of Liberia during a meeting with Liberian President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and the leadership of the AFL. “I had a meeting with the President, the Defense Minister, and the Chief of Staff, and I must say my campaign of learning continues. When a soldier leaves from Michigan to Liberia, he can gain as much as he gives.”
