-Terms it as an emotional moment
Like scores of other Liberians, Liberia’s Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor voted today at the Lelekpayea School in District #2, Bong County.
While in an interaction with media practitioners when she exhausted her process, the Vice President characterized the experience as a “highly emotional” moment.
“I’m so, so happy to cast my vote. I’m happy for the weather. I’m encouraging all residents of Bong County to remain peaceful,” she tells reporters.
She joins other electorate, including presidential, vice presidential, senatorial and representative candidates that have been spotted in at the ballot box.
Earlier today, President George Weah casted his vote at the Kendaja Public School, where he registered during the voters registration exercise.
Following his voting process,. President Weah told reporters that he was glad to exercise his constitutional rights and called on Liberians to do the same as peacefully as possible.
“I have confidence in the Liberian people that they will vote for me because they gave me a. mandate in 2017, and I asked them to renew same,” Pres Weah said.
Liberia’s October 10, 2023, legislative and presidential elections commenced few minutes after 8:00AM- at voting centers across the country. As many expected- the elections are being reacted to with massive anxiety.
Unfortunately, it has been met with a little discouragement that has changed the minds of some of the voters (To abstain from the process).
The elections are being held under the watch of the joint security, parties observers, as well as hundreds of local and international observers.
As part of efforts to ensure that the elections are fair, credible, and transparent the National Elections Commission (NEC) Boss Madam Davidetta Browne Lassanah earlier disclosed that the Commission certified about 662 international observers, and 5,981 local observers, which amounts to 6,643 observers.
