-Pres. Boakai commits to supporting the LNP, as he dedicates Fingerprint Lab

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has committed his government support to the Liberia National Police to have a responsible and trusted police service.
“To have a society that can be trusted and protected, we have to believe in our police force and we have to equip them. We can assure you that this government is going to do everything and seek every support not just to beautify them but that the people of Liberia will know that they have protection from the police.” Boakai Commits. The Liberian leader made the vow when he spoke on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the dedication of the fingerprint lab at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police.
He stated that the country can only be safe if the police are well equipped to fight crimes and bring to justice suspects. “If we equip the police, they will be able to fight crimes. When crimes happen, suspects will not go with impunity and the people will not be left with pain, because the police are equipped enough to fight crimes and make our country safe.”
At the same time, the Liberia National Police through its inspector general has sanctioned a memorandum of understanding with the People’s Republic of China to boost the police capacity to fight crimes across the country.
The signing of the documents which took place during the dedication ceremony of the fingerprint lab, seeks to enhance the police capacity in fighting crimes through forensic science.
At the dedication of the fingerprint laboratory which is still in the test-running stage, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Yin Chengwu stated that the fingerprint laboratory will be an accelerator of the capacity-building of Liberia’s law enforcement. He Provided that the equipment of the lab is advanced and the technicians from China have installed the equipment and trained the Liberian operation officers.
Furthermore, he noted that China will continue to provide technical support to ensure the normal operation of the lab. “It will be an accelerator of capacity-building of Liberia’s law enforcement. The equipment of the lab is advanced. This lab is the first of its kind in Liberia. A week ago, the technicians from China installed the equipment and trained the Liberian operation officers. The Chinese side will continue to provide technical support to ensure the normal operation of the lab. I believe that the LNP will be able to provide the Liberian people with better public security services.” Ambassador Yin said.
The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Liberia added that the fingerprint lab will be an accelerator of advancing President Boakai’sARREST agenda, of which Rule of Law is a vital part. He added that the lab will enable the LNP to make better analyses in the criminal investigation and give the LNP more methods to combat crimes.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu continued by asserting that the fingerprint lab is an accelerator of China-Liberia relations. He revealed that according to the agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Liberia, the Chinese Government consented to undertake the Project of Fingerprint Examination Laboratory that will boost the friendship and cooperation between China and Liberia will be further strengthened.
He noted that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph NyumaBoakai, the China-Liberia relationship is entering a new stage and China will adhere to the principles of sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith, and jointly promote friendly, pragmatical, and win-win cooperation between China and Liberia.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu concluded by revealing that last week, the third plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was successfully held in Beijing. He stated that by implementing the spirit of the plenum, China will further deepen reform comprehensively, and advance Chinese modernization. The Chinese Ambassador revealed that China and Liberia will be good partners on the way to realizing modernization through mutual support and alignment of the development strategy.
Meanwhile, the police also launched the official website intended to bring the LNP closer to the public. The country manager of the International Development Law Organization, ChinyelumugoOkoh intimated that the launch of the police website is an effort to move the police from the police force to the police service and make them effectively fight crimes.
She added that the website will make the police more accessible to the public and build the trust and confidence of the public in the police. “Through the use of this website, real issues will come to light and the police will be more responsive in addressing them. This will build the confidence and trust of the public in the police.”
Meanwhile, President Joseph N. Boakai has donated 1,500 bags to people living with disabilities, as part of activities leading to the Independence Day celebration. The donation was made at an engagement with people living with disabilities on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, under the theme, “Building new Liberia for all Liberians’ at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
During the engagement, people living with disabilities had the opportunity to demonstrate their talents including messages of peace. The Liberian leader said when people are disabled, they deserve to be cared for to allow them to feel a part of the country or environment.
According to him, the theme of the engagement, “Building new Liberia for all Liberians’” is to make sure that each and everyone is part of the country. President Boakai indicated that “we are committed to making sure that we are a responsible and inclusive government for everybody.”
He further asserted that a responsible government should be able to take care of its citizens’ needs, including people living with disabilities. The President explained that his government would work with the second lady to know what exactly the community of people living with debilitates are faced with. The Liberian leader said it is the responsibility of all citizens to make sure that Liberia becomes a responsible nation.
For her part, Liberia’s Second lady and Executive Director of Group of 77 (People living with Disabilities) Madam Synleseh Stephenie Dahn-Koung stated the president’s President shows the love he has for people living with disabilities. Madam Dahn-Koung disclosed that since she took over as Executive Director of the Group of 77, she has applied effort to improve the lives of people living with disabilities.
She told the President that people living with disabilities have the quality and ability to contribute to the nation. Liberia’s Second Lady called on all partners to support the community with disabilities with the necessary materials needed to empower them.
