–LNP Vows to Combat Terrorism
The Liberia National Police (LNP) has warned against acts of terrorism and affirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security within the country’s borders.
“We will not allow the terrorization of Liberians and others residing in our borders,” Inspector General Gregory Coleman stated during an engagement with the press.
This declaration follows an incident on January 1, 2025, when a petrol bomb was exploded in the PHP community in central Monrovia. This instilled fear among local residents. Inspector General Coleman emphasized that such acts will not be permitted in Liberia, as they threaten the safety and well-being of peaceful citizens.
The LNP says it is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, aiming to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Coleman reassured the public that the police force is dedicated to demonstrating that Liberia remains a governable and secure nation.
In an update provided to the media on January 2, 2025, the police revealed that they have made significant progress in their investigation. They are collaborating with the prosecution team to determine appropriate charges based on existing laws related to serious crimes.
At the same time, theInspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory Coleman, emphasized that politics should not be weaponized to instill fear in the public. He noted that terrorism breeds both fear and death, and those who propagate fear often have ulterior motives that warrant thorough investigation.
Inspector General Coleman clarified that the LNP’s investigation is not limited to just one or two suspects but encompasses a larger group of individuals, including those who have yet to be identified.
Coleman announced that in the coming weeks, the LNP will collaborate with the Liberia Fire Service to enforce a ban on street sales of gasoline. He pointed out that gasoline sold on the streets has been misused in acts of terrorism within the country.
Coleman stressed that the LNP and the Fire Service will not compromise on the sustainability of street gasoline vendors. Instead, their focus will be on preventing acts of terrorism and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
