With a number of politicians gunning for the plum presidency job of the country continuing to swell, the six political parties that initiated alliance discussion with the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), the Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD), the United People’s Party (UPP), Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), Change Democratic Action (CDA), and the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), have said President George Manneh Weah remains the only viable and suitable candidate among the rest who has what it takes to move the country forward and have vowed to ensure the President gets re-elected come 2023. They have also set aside April 8, 2023, to formally sign the framework document, committing themselves to the political union and officially subs membership in the party.

According to a press release issued yesterday by the six political parties and signed by Mr. Tapple Doe, Political Leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) and Chairman for the Grand Coalition Program on behalf of his colleagues, it was historicized that on March 11, 2023, there was a press conference held by them at the National Headquarters of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) “where we committed ourselves through a resolution and informed the Liberian people and the world about our collective decisions to support H. E. President George Manneh Weah’s reelection bid and join the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)”.

“Based on this decision, I have come on behalf of six opposition political parties, including the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), the Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD), the United People’s Party (UPP), the Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), Change Democratic Action (CDA), and the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), that signed the Resolution of March 11, 2023, to inform you, the Liberian people, about our collective decision to officially sign the Framework Document and join the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) on April 8, 2023, to support H. E. President George Manneh Weah for his second term bid. This decision comes after months of negotiations and consultations with stakeholders in our individual political parties and having satisfied all required standards and procedures to join the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)”, the statement said.

As indicated on March 11, 2023, the parties said they have gone further by planning a befitting ceremony that will bring together thousands of their partisans, supporters, well-wishers, and sympathizers from across Montserrado and neighboring counties in honor of the day at the headquarters of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) in Paynesville City.

“Indeed, it goes without saying that April 8, 2023, will go down in Liberia’s political history as the day the first-ever largest political coalition, comprised of nine political parties, was formed for the second term election of H. E. Dr. George Manneh Weah.

“While there may be more other reasons for our decision to support President Weah for a second term, the most significant of all is that, after thorough examinations of all potential presidential candidates, we are convinced that President Weah is best suited and deserves our support than any other presidential candidates in the impending October 10, 2023, presidential and legislative elections based on the prevailing circumstances of peace, press and political freedom, democracy, and infrastructural development, just to name but a few”, the strongly worded press statement said.

The fledgling parties with an entrenched grass-roots support base maintained that their support for President Weah’s second term does not mean that everything is well in the country, adding “For we are equally aware of the challenges of government and the need for improvement, as may be the case for every government in the world, but with our support and collective efforts, things can get better”.

In conclusion, the parties said they were assuring the Liberian people of their commitment to peaceful, credible, free, and fair elections and encouraged all Liberians, especially those soon to be partisans, supporters, sympathizers, and well-wishers of constituent parties of the CDC, to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration process and register to vote.
