Monrovia– Leelai M. Kpukuyou, an illustrious daughter of Bong County, has formally solicited the support and endorsement of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, for her quest to be appointed as Liberia’s Commerce and Industry Minister. 

This comes days after she expressed her interest in the post, following the resignation of former Minister Amin Modad. She writes the Caucus, “I am writing to you today not only as a proud daughter of Bong County but also as someone deeply committed to serving our nation,” Kpukuyou stated in her correspondence. “It is with a strong sense of responsibility and patriotism that I reach out to you, my kinsman, to formally inform you of my intentions.”

Kpukuyou, who has amassed 18 years of experience in the business sector, emphasized her qualifications for the role. “My background as the former Secretary General of the Liberian Business Association has equipped me with the necessary skills and insights to lead our country’s commerce and industry effectively,” she noted. “I bring with me rich academic credentials and extensive knowledge in both local and foreign trade, as well as foreign direct investment.”

In her appeal to the Caucus, Kpukuyou highlighted the potential benefits her appointment could bring to Bong County. “Being appointed as the next Minister of Commerce would not only be a personal honor but would also significantly impact our local economy,” she asserted. “I am committed to creating jobs and improving the lives of our people, while also strengthening the bond between our offices and the Executive.”

Kpukuyou concluded her letter with a heartfelt plea for support. “It is my fervent hope and prayer that this letter finds you all in good spirits,” she said. “I look forward to your intervention and timely support in making this aspiration a reality.”

Leelai M. Kpukuyou is a seasoned servant-leader with 18 years of experience in transforming systems across various sectors, including public, non-profit, private, and human services. She specializes in leadership development, diplomatic coordination, and impactful program facilitation aimed at enhancing productivity in organizations. Leelai has a strong track record in team building, problem-solving, and strategic planning, having developed numerous strategic visions and project proposals for various institutions.

Currently, she serves as a Senior Consultant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Liberia, where she provides strategic support and coordinates important events and meetings. Previously, she was the Executive Director of the African Youth and Women Empowerment Initiative (AYOWEI) and has held leadership roles in the Liberian Business Association, advocating for private-sector development and empowering youth and women economically.

Her professional experience includes managing significant private sector projects, engaging in international diplomacy, and facilitating programs focused on mental health and substance abuse. Leelai has extensive travel experience across multiple continents, building relationships and promoting investment opportunities in Liberia.

Her areas of expertise encompass technical and strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, program management, and gender equality initiatives. Leelai holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Sociology, along with various certifications in project management and international trade facilitation. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to empowerment and entrepreneurship and has been recognized among the top women CEOs in Africa.
