Several women have applauded the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) for the first step in addressing drugs and substances.

The women believe that the LDEA arrest of notorious drug dealers in the country is an essential first step in addressing and countering this significant national security threat.

Speaking to our reporter on Thursday, February 22, 2024, in Monrovia, the women expressed excitement for the apprehension of several alleged drug dealers including a notorious Nigerian national, George Ikepehekwu Obi alias “Original Japan”.

Miatta Dolo, a resident of Buzzy Quarter said the long-awaited time has come and God has listened to their cry on combating the drug issues.

“Our children are gone wayward due to this drug business.

Imagine seeing your baby boy of yesterday turn into something else and end up in the streets. I cried day and night to God for these children,” Miatta said.

She frowned on drug dealers for this national security threat emphasizing that if they were not selling it their children would not have drugs to take.

“Thank God for this new leadership at the LDEA most especially President Joseph Boakai who has declared this is a national emergency”.

Miatta believes that with this new operation of the LDEA, the issues of drugs will be limited.

According to her, once the government goes after drug dealers then the users will also be targeted because the substances will not be available to them.

Also speaking, Helen Tarpeh, a resident of Perry Street appreciated President Joseph Boakai for making the issue of drugs a public health emergency that needs to be solved.

Helen stressed that it is through the intervention of President Boakai that the LDEA has intensified the fight against drugs and substances.

“I’m happy this is happening in our country. Our children are spoiling from these drug issues so, for me, I’m happy with this new operation of the LDEA at least this is help to eliminate this issue,” she added.

The new leadership of the LDEA under Director General Abraham Kromah, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, conducted a successful operation in Sayon Town, apprehending several alleged drug dealers and notorious Nigerian national George Ikepehekwu Obi alias “Original Japan”.

The LDEA Boss said the arrests were made to combat drug-related crimes and ensure community safety.

The operation resulted in the seizure of a considerable quantity of drugs and kush, making a significant step in addressing illicit drug activities in the region.

Mr. Kromah highlighted the agency’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking and protecting citizens from the harmful effects of illegal substances.
