-Outgoing ACP in Nimba says

NIMBA COUNTY — The former Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the Liberia National Police, Nimba Detachment, Dixon Paul Karmonka has bestowed honor and admonished the incoming commander to prioritize women in the police force.

ACP Karmonka on Wednesday commended women already in police around Liberia, stressing that more women in policing will build a safer future for everyone.

He delivered his message marking his official turnover to the incoming commander Larmie Mendeh, designated by Liberia President, Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

“Women’s participation in police promotes access to justice for all, including for victims of gender-based violence, who may be more likely to seek help from women officers”, said the outgoing Nimba police commander.

He noted that women police officers play a crucial role across the full spectrum of policing, from crime prevention to criminal investigations, and the protection of human rights, safety, and security.

In his brief statement, Karmonka salutes women who are continually breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Outgoing LNP-Nimba ACP Karmonka said the dream of women becoming an officer stemmed from what some would consider their worst nightmare, adding that women are courageous, brilliant, innovative, and instrumental people.

He highlighted the important need to encourage females to continue to unveil themselves to serve in security, as it leads to a gender balance in society.

Karmonka averred that a police force that reflects the diversity of the community it serves, is better equipped to build trust and confidence, with clear benefits for safety and better service delivery.
