Monrovia: About 50 school-going children at the Great Commission Primary School in Chicken Soup Factory, Gardnersville, Monrovia, have benefited from a donation of books bags, and copybooks from a group called the Coalition of Youth and Students for Better Liberia.

The bags and books were distributed to the kids on Friday, September 27, 2024, on the school campus. Distributing the items to the kids, the Executive Director of the group, Madam Alexzina M. Wilson said the Coalition for Youth and Students for Better Liberia is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2015.

Madam Wilson disclosed that the group is comprised of humanitarians and they aim to help the needy and less fortunate children and people. She said the group hopes to see students learn and take their lessons seriously and see the initiatives as a sound of encouragement.

Madam Wilson urged the students not to be discouraged because they are orphans who don’t have parents or school materials before taking their lessons seriously. “We are not directly related to the students but we still came to help so the same way we came to help another organization will also think in that way and come so, to the students that are listening, don’t feel discouraged that you don’t have parents or anything to go to school just keep being focus and believe that God will do it for you,” she stated.

Madam Wilson added that they are not just limited to helping school kids but also reach out to disadvantaged people and others who are in need like single mothers who can’t afford to take care of their children’s needs.

According to her, the group has been in existence since 2015 without external support but has been helping people through their own pockets.

“So, for this year 2024, this is our first phase of donation to the Great Commission Primary School, here in Chicken Soup Factory. We have been constrained financially,” she added.

The Coalition of Youth and Students for Better Liberia Executive Director highlighted that the group has decided to embark on the donation process in three counties, Montserrado, Bong, and Margibi and the Great Commission Primary School is the first they have reached out to.

Madam Wilson asserted that the group will be reaching out with donations to five schools in each of the three counties and 50 students from each of the schools will receive school items.  She mentioned that though the group is constrained financially they will continue to reach out to those who are in need.

Additionally, Madam Wilson said the donation of the school materials is in line with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai back to school agenda.

“Though the President is not aware of us, that is why we are thinking of meeting him someday to tell him that this is his agenda we are pushing and probably, we might get the help and support to reach out to more people,” she noted.

However, she said the worth of the donation is about US$3500. Madam Wilson continued: “We purchased these materials copybooks, bags, and pencils by cartoons.

She called on other humanitarians who want to collaborate and support this initiative to join the Coalition of Youth and Students for Better Liberia and put their hands around them so that they can continue reaching out to the needy.

In response to the donation, Mr. Kafa Kamara, Vice Principal for Administration of the school appreciated the group for the initiative.

Mr. Kamara said the donation by the group is a motivation for the children to ensure that they can come to school and learn especially for students whose parents can’t afford to provide school items.

“You have done extremely well for these kids by providing these bags so, they can be able to put their books and pencils in it and have the confidence to come to school,” he said.

He also thanked all those that contributed towards the initiative emphasizing they hope that the group will continue to do more of what they have started.
